Fitting your waterproof wound & cast protector
It can be a stressful time after breaking an arm or leg. After having a plaster cast put on the limb, patients have to alter their ways of doing everyday tasks which are usually taken for granted. Showering or bathing are two such tasks and the problem of how to succesfully keep clean whilst in plaster is now easy with LimbO waterproof cast protectors. The LimbO plaster cast protector has a unique seal to keep plaster casts dry when showering, or even during hydrotherapy. In the old days plastic bags were the only option to keep casts dry - not any more. PICC lines need to be kept dry too and the LimbO waterproof protectors are great for this. Wounds and dressings can be a problem when showering. They must be kept dry to aid with the healing process. The Limbo waterproof cast protector is also a waterproof wound and dressing protector.
So for dressing, wound and cast waterproof protection. the Limbo will protect plaster casts and wound dressings from getting wet during bathing or showering. They can also be used for hydrotherapy. 1.Using your thumb and forefinger, carefully grip your Limbo's black seal by its outer edge where it joins the clear plastic Limbo body, and insert your injured limb into the seal opening gently pushing it in. Note: for leg models fit the Limbo so that your toes are at the pointed end.
Still gripping the Limbo as described above, draw it up over the cast or bandage, allowing the seal to turn inwards as it slides up.
2.When it is up past the knee or elbow, as high as possible, pull the whole Limbo down a little and the seal will reverse itself turning upwards so that the rubber (inner) surface of the seal is in contact with your skin above the cast or bandage.At this point try and bring the Limbo up still higher, if possible, by carefully pulling the seal up a little further without damaging the rubber
To Remove
3.Carefully roll the seal back on itself a little and slide the garment off, see Please avoid pinching and tearing the rubber seal with your fingernails.

Elbow LimbO Fitting
1.Insert the arm through the larger hole in the LimbO and draw it carefully up over the elbow, being careful not to disturb the dressing. Ensure the rubber surfaces of the two seals sit smoothly against the skin, without wrinkles. The top seal should be above the dressing and the lower one below
2.Gently pull the top seal (with the larger hole) downwards so that it forms a "cone" shape against the arm allowing maximum protection to the dressing from water running down the limb. Pull the lower seal gently upwards so this too forms a "cone" against the lower arm.
To Remove
3.Carefully slide the limbO off the arm taking care to lift the seal over the dressing. Take extra care not to damage the seal with fingernails or jewellery.

Foot LimbO Fitting
1.Pull the LimbO over your foot, gripping it by the outer edge of the seal where it joins the PVC bag (as shown) . Take care as you pull it around the ankle not to stretch the neoprene seal.
2.Once the seal is around your ankle, adjust the position to find the place where the seal best conforms to the shape of your ankle. Then give it a gentle tug down and the inner surface of the seal should be snug against the skin the whole way round.

3.Carefully pull the LimbO off your foot, ensuring that you do not damage the seal, especially when pulling it over the ankle area.

Full Arm Models
Measure the circumference of the arm around the skin at the top of the arm.
From the above point measure the length down to the longest finger tip following the bend in the arm.
Measure the maximum circumference of the cast usually around the elbow joint
Full Leg Models
Measure the circumference of the arm around the skin at the top of the leg.
From the above point measure down to the bottom of the heel.
Measure the maximum circumference of the cast either at the top of the leg or around the knee joint
Below Elbow Models
Measure the circumference of the arm around the skin 3 inches above the elbow.
From the above point measure the length down to the longest finger tip.
Measure the maximum circumference of the cast usually around the wrist or at the top of the cast.
Below Knee Models
Measure the circumference of the leg around the skin 3 inches above the knee.
From the above point measure the length down to the bottom of the heel.
Measure the maximum circumference of the cast usually around the ankle or at the top of the cast
Foot Models
Measure the circumference of the leg around the skin 6 inches above the knee.
From the above point measure the length down to the bottom of the heel.
Measure the maximum circumference of the air boot usually around the ankle or at the top of the boot.
Mitt Hand Injury Adult Only
Measure the circumference of the arm 12 inches above the longest finger tip.
The length of the Mitt Hand Injury is 30cm. Please note this item cannot be fully submerged.
Elbow Cover (PICC Line) Adult Only
Depending on where the bandage or PICC line is, measure the circumference of the arm 5 inches above and 5 inches below. The Length of the elbow cover (PICC line) is 30cm. Please note this item cannot be fully submerged.
In Use

It is advisable to remove some of the air trapped in the LimbO particularly if it is being used in a bath, to avoid excessive 'ballooning' and floating. This is done by carefully lifting the seal when it is out of the water and squeezing the air out of the LimbO, then letting the seal go back against the skin again.

The LimbO should not be worn for periods in excess of 20 minutes as the trapped air gets quite warm which can cause perspiration and discomfort to the wearer.

Please take extra care not to slip or trip when entering or exiting the bath or shower.
After Use

Hand wash as required, mild disinfectant may be used.

Hang upside down to dry before storage.

Important Notes
The Limbo should be used according to the instructions above for maximum durability and safety.The product may be submerged with care, for example in hydrotherapy as part of your treatment, with medical approval. Swimming: If used in the water outdoors e.g. in a pool or the sea, etc, please exercise caution and be aware of extra hazards such as sharp objects. For safety reasons stay within your depth. Children must be supervised at all times. Actual swimming could dislodge the seal therefore 'splashing about' rather than swimming is recommended. Full leg models should not be used in pools or any other outdoor water activity. LimbO is a non sterile product and should thus not be used on open or undressed wounds. It is latex-free, fully reusable and designed to last six to eight weeks, or more depending on use. If you are using your LimbO whilst under medical treatment, ensure the approval of your medical practitionerEnsure that the seal is wrinkle free and be careful not to puncture the LimbO with your fingernails or Jewellery. To avoid damaging the leg models when using a limbo over a cast it is important that you fit a thick sock or soft cloth over the lower part of the cast, i.e. between cast and the limbo, to provide some cushioning for the Limbo.Please do not walk on a hard floor once the Limbo is fitted
